Art Criticism and Aesthetics for Teachers
Course Description: An exploration of art criticism and aesthetics as part of a comprehensive art education curriculum with practical application in a PreK-12 setting.
Course Objectives: At the end of this course, students will:

Become proficient at understanding the criteria and philosophical basis for theories of art.

Develop an understanding of one’s aesthetic choices and how aesthetic choice relates to identity

Become proficient at describing the importance of aesthetic education

Become proficient at describing philosophical approaches to aesthetics and criticism

Understand and practice a variety of approaches to art critical inquiry.

Become proficient at describing, analyzing and interpreting contemporary works of art.

Work collaboratively with peers on issues related to the nature of art.

Develop an awareness of writings by contemporary art critics.

Develop and write a lesson plan that focuses on art criticism and/or aesthetics.
